Entering ESX License Serial Numbers via the Service Console (ESX 2.5.2 Only)

It is possible to enter your license number via the Service Console if you need to. Enhancements were made to the “vmware” command which has historically showed version numbers with vmware -v. From ESX 2.5.2 and on-wards you can use vmware –new-sn and vmware –newsmp-sn to enter serial numbers like so:

  1. Logon to the Service Console as ROOT
  2. Type:vmware –new-sn XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

    and
  3. vmware –new-smp-sn XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
