VMware High Availability and Fault Tolerance

VMware High Availability, or VMware HA, is VMware's first enterprise availability product. It moves your virtual machines to another host server if the first host goes down, giving you greater uptime. VMware Fault Tolerance, or VMware FT, is VMware's second availability product and is packaged with vSphere 4.0.

Here, you'll find tips by industry experts that explain, for example, how to configure VMware HA failover levels while accounting for key configuration considerations, and how to determine which workloads don't require HA. We also offer tips that explain how to combine HA with Windows clustering and other measures to vary availability levels among your servers depending on their importance.

Even if your business doesn't have VMware HA, one of our tips explains how to achieve a certain amount of redundancy without VMware HA or VMotion.
