Virtualization giant extends its reach: A look at VMware acquisitions
The May 2012 acquisition of Wanova Inc. and its Mirage software helped VMware expand its VDI tools to physical PCs and laptops. Without Mirage, VMware View could not manage physical desktops and user-installed applications. The purchase gives companies with older hardware a way to ease into VDI without the need to buy new computers. In 2013, VMware bundled Mirage with View and VMware Horizon Workspace in the Horizon Suite, which combines management of physical desktops, virtual desktops and mobile applications for end-user computing.
